Annual Report 2023
We promote reproductive justice in Latin America and the Caribbean. In close collaboration with those who share our vision, we accomplished great things this year. Learn about the Impact of Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (IpasLAC).
Ipas LAC strategic lines of work
We act from a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to promote the creation and sustainability of resilient safe abortion ecosystems.
The sustainable and resilient abortion ecosystem is person-centered and understands the complexity of the environment in which each individual makes abortion decisions. Our lines of work encompass the different elements of this ecosystem in which women and people with the capacity to bear children make their reproductive decisions.
Better policies, laws and financing
We work to ensure that decision-makers design, approve and monitor compliance with laws, public policies and budgets that guarantee access to contraception and abortion for all women and people with the capacity to bear children.
We promote access to abortion as part of a sustainable ecosystem in which stakeholders - women and those with reproductive capacity, government actors,
health personnel, civil organizations, activists and funders - work in an interrelated and committed way for reproductive rights.
Improved social norms and agency
We seek to ensure that women and people with gestational capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean have access to information and social support that allows them to exercise their autonomy and agency in making decisions regarding their sexuality and reproductive life, free of stigma and discrimination, especially regarding the prevention of
unwanted pregnancies and access to
abortion services.
Improved access, availability and accessibility
We promote the strengthening of access to abortion services
and contraception in the region, guaranteeing reproductive autonomy and providing quality, acceptable, timely and affordable care.
Our impact over time
The work of the Ipas network began in 1973 and since then we have been able to reach more than 100 countries. Although Ipas LAC is a recently created network, we are backed by many years of work in the Latin America region. We tell you about some of our most relevant changes and the impact of our work.
2022
During 2022, Ipas Central America and Mexico underwent a fundamental transformation that marked a milestone in our history: We became Ipas Latin America and the Caribbean (Ipas LAC)! This evolution reflects our strong commitment to advancing reproductive rights in the region. It was a year of significant change and renewal, allowing us to expand our reach and strengthen our commitment to the ability of women, adolescents and people with
gestational capacity in Latin America and the Caribbean to make informed, evidence-based reproductive decisions.
2020
As Ipas Central America and Mexico (CAM), we work to ensure that women and all pregnant women have the right information, support and security to access safe abortion and contraceptive methods whenever they need them. Our person-centered approach allows us to understand the complexity of the environment in which people make abortion decisions.
We seek the sustainability of this ecosystem by encouraging key actors and local systems to commit to upholding abortion rights and responding to people's needs.
2019
In 2019 we set the path towards regional integration, Ipas Central America and Ipas Mexico merged to form Ipas CAM.
Believing in a world where every woman, girl and person with the capacity to bear children has the right and ability to determine her own sexuality and reproductive health, we worked on our strategic lines: safe and quality health care; advocacy for policies that support legal, safe and available abortion; and we maintained and strengthened our partnerships with organizations that work directly with women and girls in their communities.
